When an aspen tree is growing massive bull elk and mule deer buck rub their velvet off their antler scaring the bark on aspen trees, the tree continues to grow around those markings which create an inverted like knot. As the tree dies nature takes it a step further as small beetles try to make their way up between the bark and the outer core of the tree. These little guys are credited for making the beautiful Indian like zigzag marks found on most all of our aspen wood furniture.
